Here it is: the very first prompt for the Mellow Lane Project. I hope everyone will have a lot of fun writing. Task 1Due: 16.02.2014Task: First, choose a number between 1 and 30. This will be the house number of your building on Mellow Lane. Please, remember to check the board if another writer has not already claimed your number. If that is the case, you will have to choose another one. Remember to also check the German MellowLane Board! Someone there might have cclaimed the number already. Once you have done that, close your eyes and imagine a door. It’s not just any door. It is the front door to a house on Mellow Lane. Is the door old fashioned or modern? Made from wood or from plastic? Does it have windows? Is it heavy? Does it have a doorknob or a doorhandle? Write down what this door look likes. Be as precise as possible. Once you have written your description, go to the Subboard "Setting" in the Mellow Lane board and create a new thread. You should title it "No. XX Mellow Lane", where XX is a placeholder of your house number. Copy and past your text into the post.

Uhm... go back on step to the main forum. Then, click on "Mellow Lane (deutsch)" instead of "Mellow Lane". It's right underneath this board in teh forum structure. Alternatively, you may click here

Task #2
Due: 23.02.2014
Task: Go back to the door you described last time and imagine that you are watching it through a camera. Zoom back a bit, so that some parts of the building around the door comes into view. What does the front of the house look like? Is it painted? Made of wood? What kind of doorbell does it have? Does it have a porch? Is something sanding on the porch? Describe the immediate surroundings of the door as precise as you can.
Once you have done that, go to the Mellow Lane board and add your description to your thread.

I apologize for the delay. I'm really busy right now, searching for a new flat. Who knew there were so many possibilities around my town. Task #4: Look up at the house. What kind of house is it? How many levels does it have? Is there a car port attached? What kind of windows does it have? How many? Describe the building as precisely as you can.

Ok, I know I'm late, but I was pretty busy working as well. Erm, I already described the houses' front side in prompt 2, so I only edited that. I hope that's ok. Just go through me descriptions and tell me if I've missed something important. ok?

I'm lagging behind. I'm really sorry for that. Real life is a mess right now. Task #5Now, imagine the front door opens and the people living in the house step out. Who ist it? Who is living in that house? A family? A pair of students? An old man? With pets? Describe the people as precise as you can. Try not to make tell us about their personality yet, just describe their appearances as best as you can.

Task #6Now, move past the people into the house. Choose one room in it and describe that room as precise as you can. Try to choose a room that tells something about the people living in the house. A kitchen, a child’s room, a bathroom, the living room, the stairs. Remember to only describe what is there. Don’t give reasons or interpretations for what you see. We are nearing the end of phase one. Only four more tasks to go.

No new prompt this week! Instead everyone has one more week to finish their descriptions. We'll start into the second part of phase on on Monday March 31st. And we'll dive into our characters then. So, please, use the time to finish your descriptions or add to new buildings. See you next week.

I'm horrbibly busy arranging my move to the new flat, so, I hope you'll forgive the lateness of this task. I remembered it just on wednesday last week, but then decided to set out another week.
Task 7
Choose one of the characters living in your house. Write an octopoem about him or her. An octopoem is a poem written about a person. It's about finding eight images that fit the person the poem is about. These images must also fit into eight categories (not necessarily in this order): month, plant, smell, colour, building, landscape, treat.
So, a poem about my grandma could read:
I know someone who is white, all drained of color A crisp December afternoon A drafty shack Amidst a balding forest A dusty coat The smell of mothballs The last dry cookie in the box A knotted oak
