The white plastic door to house number 36 looks new. There is a four-part window in the upper half of the door, which is made of thick, non-see-through glass. The doorknob looks a shiny gold and matches the gold-colored button of the doorbell, which is located at the right side of the door on a porcelain name plate, next to the gold-colored number 36. There is a slit for the mail neatly fitted into the wall on the left, and it is covered by a metal hatch, also painted in white. The doormat reads „Welcome“. Curiously, there is not a trace of dirt on it, although it looks to be the only part that has not been recently purchased.

The door belongs to a single-family house with a rectangular garden around it. The grass is trimmed, as are the small bushes that grow close to the building, and there is a white picket fence running around the garden. A gravel pathway cuts across the lawn leading from a small wooden gate in the middle of the fence up to the entrance. There are two big flowerpots at either side of the door, each one containing a ball-shaped boxwood.
The house itself is made of light grey bricks and has a dark grey roof with a chimney. The window frames are white. Behind the windows at ground level, you can see matching white flowerpots, all the same size, containing pink orchids. There are two windows on first floor that face the street. One is decorated with a small, silver carousel, that keeps on spinning inside glass ball. The other one allows a glimpse at a wild collection of cacti. There is a garage for a single car at the side of the house with a white door, which is closed. Above the roof of the house you can see some treetops belonging to a pair of chestnut tress that grow in the back garden.

The People
The door opens and out step a woman in her early forties and a girl, aged 14.
The woman is of average height, slim, and wears her dark brown hair pinned up casually. One can not be exactly sure whether she dyes it or not, but a careful observer might come to the conclusion that the color looks a bit too regular to be natural. She wears a flowing blouse with animal print over a black top and a pair of black pants. Her outfit is completed by a pair of big, golden ear rings, a thick golden necklace and golden armlets – all fashion jewelry. Her facial features are clean cut, and you can see that she once must have been very pretty. When she smiles, she reveals a line of very white teeth, and she holds herself up straight. However, the traces of alcohol, smoking and too much fake tan can be clearly seen in spite of the professional make-up.
The girl is bony, quite tall for her age and wears her curly brown hair short. She stands with a slight slouch, hands buried deep in the pockets of her cargo pants. She wears a pair of grey sneakers and a washed out print shirt that reads “Hard Rock Cafe Barcelona”. Around her neck, she wears a black leather string that holds a small object, which she hides under her shirt. She has a pretty face, but on her forehead you can see the first small pimples of puberty. She doesn't wear any make-up.

The room
The living-room is almost eerie in its tidiness. It looks almost impersonal, as if from a magazine. The parquet flooring is shining, the white rugs are without a stain. The windows are cleaned and decorated with long, white curtains. The pink orchids on the windowsills are in matching white flowerpots and if you look closely, you'll see that they all stand in the exact same distance from each other. Around an antique round table is a white three-piece suite with white scatter cushions. There is an ashtray on the table which looks like it has never been used. At the wall is a cabinet with glasses and two bookcases – its books all have leather binding. One might think their look played a more important part in their choosing than their content. At the other wall is a chest of drawers. On top of it is a small golden, antique clock. Beside it are two pictures in golden frames – one shows a man and a woman in their twenties, a wedding photo. The other other shows a brown-haired girl of maybe six years. They all look very happy.
