I would like to keep the type of POV constant in all stories of the project. However, this means that the participating writers need to agree on the POV they want to use.
As I see it, there are three possibilities here:
1) a 3rd person POV omniscient, or
2) a 3rd person POV personal, or
3) a 1st person narrator.
Possibility 2 and 3 would mean that the narrator (or the character whom the reader is following) stays the same for the duration of the project though. I.e. if writer A chooses character X as I-narrator from Mellow Lane #16, writer B who uses that house later on, will also have to use character X as I-narrator. Every house / family / apartment on Mellow Lane would have one character who narrates the stories concerning that house - from beginning to end. Personally, I find that challenging but also very interesting.
What's your opinion on this?

Well, I think the omniscent narrator might sound a bit Desperate Housewive-ish, if you get what I mean. So I'd fancy the 3rd person limited pov. But I'll be fine with the other as well.

I donĀ“t really like to write 3rd person omniscient, so any of the others will do. First person narrator kind of sounds interesting. Also i like the idea of one character telling from his pov through the whole story.

I feel the same about the omniscient narrator.
My favourit is the 3rd person personal narrator - but I fear that's only because I'm betetr at writing it. The 1st person narrator would be challenging for me, but maybe I should vote for it just because of that... You need to challenge yourself after all. And I believe that the I-narrator would be the most interesting to read in this case...

Okay, I guess I'm a bit late on this, I hope you don't mind ;-) I think I'd prefer the 3rd person limited and the 1st person narrator over the omniscient. However, I have a question about the 1st person narrator. Tzu, you said that every writer would have to stick to this POV for each house. Why? If I'm informed correctly, "A Song of Ice and Fire" switches between the POV of characters all the time, and it seems to work. Personally, I don't see why we couldn't switch POV between the singular stories. It would be very difficult to imitate the 1st person writing style of another writer, and if we imitate the writing style badly, the whole collection of short stories will be... not so great. However, if every writer had a collection of I-narrators she regularly employs, we would play off our strengths.

That's not at all what I meant. You aren't supposed to imitate another writer.
I meant this: A writer creates a house and its inhabitants, right? Then, the writer choses one character in that house as the I-narrator. This would be a final choice. So, it the writer writes the first story from that character's pov, he will also have to write the second story from that character's pov. You wouldn't be allowed to change to some other character's pov for the next story.
The prompts will mix the houses and have every writer write about some other writer's characters. This is actually very easy, even if it seems complicated at first. Here's an example:
Writer A invents House A and chooses character Amy as the I-narrator. Writer B invents house B and chooses character Betty as the I-narrator.
Now, writer A is assigned the prompt: "house A, house B, jelousy" She will now write a story from character Amy's pov that deals with jelousy and also features the characters from house B.
Meanwhile, writer B is assigned the prompt: "house B, house A, the greatest love of all" and will go on to write a story from character Betty's pov that deals with "the greatest love of all" and also features characters from house A.
---
What I actually mean is that every writer chooses one narrator for his/her stories and then sticks with that narraotr for the duration of the project.
Since every writer has a different I-narrator, there will be variation of povs automatically.

Just to unnerve you... I'm actually reading "A song of Ice and Fire" at the moment, therefor I can tell you that each chapter is told from a different person's pov (switching between the 8 main characters), but always as a 3rd person limited narrator. :-D kthxbai :-D

Ah, okay, now I get it :-) So, I would stay with "my" character the whole time and nobody else would get to write from his/her point of view. See, you had me confused there. In this case, I apologize for all the fuzz.
Lilly, I thought it was all 1st person limited, thanks for pointing that out! And you're not unnerving me ;-)
Something just occured to me. If we wrote the stories in 1st person pov, the whole collection might be a bit confusing to read. I mean, the reader would have to remember (or even find out) who the I-narrator is this time. It might be more convenient to stick to 3rd person limited, since the name of the main character is mentioned there all the time. Just a thought.

Since I have described the garden already, I won't add anything to my description thread this week. Hope that's okay.
